What’s Goin’ On – Part III: Tug of War  

I wrote this post on August 14 in which I noted that the homeless encampment that had arisen at the corner of Wellington and Horton in London, and which I had photographed for a previous post, had disappeared. The tents, brollies, garbage that had been there just a week before were all gone.

I hypothesized that this was the work of London’s CIR, a city organization whose existence a reader had put me on to.

Well, just yesterday, on Monday, Aug 31 I drove through that intersection again and the encampment was back, but worse. Twice the size and a whole lot more garbage strewn all over the sidewalk and into the street. It was visually a bigger shit-show than when I first wrote about it.

Well today, Sept 1, I drove through there again and once again the people and tents and garbage are gone. 24 hours later.

So, there is clearly a tug of war going on between the forces of cleanliness and order – maybe led by the London CIR, maybe not – and the homeless, at that location in London, and perhaps at others.

Mini-Postscript

I went by once again a day later, and the corner was still free of tents and garbage, but there were two London police pickups parked at the curb, and some constables were interacting with some folks on the corner.

Some London cops drive pick-ups now, some the familiar sedans, others SUVs, all with the same LPS markings.
