Cancelled
I had written a post this week specifically about PM Carney asking the Canadian provincial premiers to put US booze back on the shelves. He asked this at a point when the rumour mill said a Canada/US trade deal was close.
The Canadian chattering classes fairly exploded with questions and opinions about this – –
Why did Carney ask this ahead of the deal?
The premiers should ignore the request from Carney.
The premiers should go along with Carney, be part of Team Canada.
People should refuse to drink US booze even if it does show up back on the shelves.
No one should tell me what to drink.
And so on….
I had some thoughts on some of these questions and opinions which I thought worthy of posting.
Well, as we know, the ‘almost done’ trade deal has collapsed, and the two countries are now engaged in an MMA-style tariff match. So, I have filed that article away rather than posting it. Kinda irrelevant, now that it is clear no premier will be doing any such thing.
However, I have filed it, not killed it.
There is one thing we know – this ain’t over. With DJT in the White House, nothing is ever over, nothing is ever settled. Might be another set of negotiations, or maybe Trump will TACO, or perhaps the US Congress will wake from its deep sleep. So many possibilities are still, well – possible.
Stay tuned. I’m keeping my powder dry.
